Never a dull moment with a cop in the family.

It all started with a phone call early, early Sunday morning from Ohio to Greensboro: "You may hear things in the news, but I'm alright."

It continued with a phone call immediately afterward from Greensboro to Walgreens: "Nick just called. He got hit by a car last night."

Drunk Driver Strikes Patrolman
SAGAMORE HILLS, OH -- The footage from the video camera on board Patrolman Nick Rezac's cruiser early Sunday morning is stunning.

As Rezac pulls off West Aurora Road near Greenwood Parkway and Holtzhauer Street at 2:08 a.m. to assist a disabled motorist -- who, ironically, was determined by Rezac to be too intoxicated to drive -- a drunken driver plows into Rezac's cruiser, momentarily knocking both the officer and the stranded motorist off their feet.

Rezac -- who escaped the accident with minor cuts and abrasions, according to Chief David Hayes -- chased the driver on foot.

"I proceeded to my cruiser to chase the vehicle that struck me," Rezac wrote in his report. "Upon reaching my cruiser, I found my driver's door was crushed and I was unable to get into my vehicle."

Rezac went on to describe how the driver, later identified as 21-year-old Michael Mizer of Northfield, was still "revving his engine and fighting to keep his vehicle on the road." The car finally gave out and Rezac detained Mizer until Ohio Highway
Patrol officers arrived to conduct the crash investigation.

Mizer reportedly registered a .23 blood-alcohol level, three times the legal limit, and was taken into custody by highway patrolmen.

Kimberly's brother is indeed alright. Nick landed somehow without experiencing any pain, but we're sure he's a-hurtin' today after all the adrenaline has worn off. Crazy!
