Let me be clear before I leave this comment. I voted for Bush...twice. I do not regret my votes either time. I do not blindly follow him and defend his every move. Cutting taxes: good. Spending money like you just raised taxes: bad. Can you fix the leaky border and stop people coming here illegally *before* you worry about what to do with the ones already here?? So, in summary. I like some things about Bush and his presidency, I don't like other things.
With that said. I have an honest question for the people celebrating the "countdown". What happens if Hillary, Barack, or John are not elected? Are you going to celebrate Bush's departure as joyously if Mit, Rudy, or Mike get the nod? I would guess not. I would guess that the hardcore haters will treat an Republican incumbant with the same disrespect that Bush got for 8 years.
Now...hear me out. If the electoral college and/or the judicial system would have favored Al Gore back in 2000, I'm sure I'd be enduring similar whiney rants from die-hard pachyderm supporters. I envision the Al Gore haters now...Calling him a robot, calling for is impeachment over some scandal or another that would be half truths blown out of proportion, and catchy slogans like "we abhore Gore", and my favorite...*death threats*.
IMHO, this completely polarized society could have been avoided if either Bush or Gore would have won an undisputed victory in 2000.
The criticisms for President Bush and his adminstration are numerous and often warranted. I destest the idiots who's entire criticism of him is something like: "he's a stupid hick that says 'nucular' instead of 'nuclear'" (which annoys the S*** out of me). Other, more intellegent critics would rather gnaw off their hands than actually admit a few things he did were actually good. How many universal health care supporters praised medicare prescription drugs as a good thing? I heard very few.
One thing is for sure. I will be celebrating Bush's departure also. I hope that when he is gone, the Americans can treat the next president with the respect The Office deserves, weather that person is a Dumbo or a Jackass.
