State of Play

A 6-hour British mini-series squeezed into a 2-hour American film.  Brad Pitt and Edward Norton join together again in this suspenseful mystery of, what?  I'm sorry?  What's that?  They dropped out of the movie?  Russell Crowe and Ben Affleck took their places?  I apologize.

Russell Crowe and Ben Affleck star in this suspenseful mystery of DC politics.  A woman turns up dead.  She just happens to be the lead researcher on Congressman Collins' (Affleck) team.  Who killed her?  Crack reporter (Crowe) and young blogger are on the case.

The trailer:

Truth, lies, cover-ups, affairs, the wistful reminiscing of the golden age of newspapers; all touched on during this film.  Politician and reporter try to forge ahead with their friendly relationship, but the twists of their behind-the-scenes "goings on" render that foundation shaky.

Who did it?  Who knew?  What sells papers more?  A mystery that has a few twists, and without seeing the original 6-hour epic, I still found it entertaining not knowing what they had to cut out.

Matinee Plus for me.
